No Bake Coconut Dog Treats

prince

Honestly, look at that face.  How could you not want to give this little guy everything he begs for? And boy oh boy, he sure can beg when he wants to.

It wasn’t too long ago that I decided I wanted to start making treats for Prince from scratch.  That way – I knew everything that was going into his treats and I felt safe giving him one whenever he looked up at me with those begging eyes.  I believe the best place to get ideas for just about anything is Pinterest, and so I logged in to search for some of those yummy looking treats.  I should note that this is yummy by my standards of just looking good, whereas Mr. LL is the one that tends to sample the food to make sure it’s edible for a dog. Now,  the problem with Pinterest?  Sometimes those ideas are just that – ideas.  The links may be broken or it may be just a link to a larger picture.  Whichever it is, it’s disappointing, for sure.  Especially when you really want to learn how to make/do something and there’s no stinking tutorial.  Well, in my desperate need of learning how to make Prince a blueberry almond birthday cake for his second birthday, I finally found the tutorial I was looking for!  As well as numerous other great looking treat ideas!

I chose this one as my first one to share on here because it’s super easy.

No Bake Coconut Dog Treats

{recipe from Pretty Fluffy}

  • 1/3 c coconut oil
  • 2-3 tbsp. peanut butter
  • 2 1/2 c rolled oats
  • shredded coconut for rolling

Place the coconut oil, peanut butter and rolled oats in a food processor.  Process until well-combined.  Roll into approximately 20 bite-sized balls and then roll into the shredded coconut.  Place each ball onto a baking sheet and refrigerate for 30 minutes before serving.

Prince was at my feet the entire time I was preparing these, much like he is when I’m preparing anything else in the kitchen.  He definitely enjoyed the bits of coconut that fell from the counter as I was rolling these, so I was pretty stoked to see how he would enjoy the end result.  After they refrigerated and I was finished taking pictures (as the sun was setting, by the way) I gave him one.  And let me tell you.  He devoured it.  All I can say is, thank goodness a treat that he thoroughly enjoys is so easy to make.
